Thanks for the article about Blackwater. Does any of the buffalo lick still exist? I noticed it pointd out on the map of the area? Thanks!
Hi David. To my knowledge, it was exhausted. When I’m visiting my relatives, I drive by that area several times. The Blackwater Post Office is nearby.

The information contained on your website is priceless! When there were so few records of our ancestors, the reasons(salt licks) for their moves helps to make sense of their activities. My ancestors were first in Kent County, VA, Pittsylvania County, VA, Patrick County,VA, Sullivan County, TN, and then Lee County, Virginia. Ann Bowling 1749 in Pittsylvania County VA to 1853 Lee County, VA. and her descendants. Ann lived at a place where there was a spring called Bingham’s Spring and I’ve been trying to locate the area. Ann’s daughter, Nancy married Francis Woods. Francis reported her death in 1853 and her age as 104. Ann’s grandson married George A” Sizemore’s granddaughter Winnie. I will be scouring your website as my family had deep roots in that location. Thank you so much!
